Cramer vs. Stewart

I admire Jim Cramer. He is loud, he is obnoxious and his picks may be off sometimes, but he puts on a good show, has a loyal following, has a successful financial website and has authored at least 4 books and counting.

I used to listen to his radio show a few years back, watched him on Kudlow & Cramer on CNBC, and then watched his TV show (Mad Money) for the first few months. One of the things that I like about him has been his honest opinions about people. He never sugar coats his feelings and appears to be a straight shooter. I remember one episode of Kudlow & Cramer where he invited a fund manager and asked him for a prediction. The guest kept avoiding his question and repeated that the Dow would be at 100,000 in 100 years. Finally, Jim got tired and told his guest he would never be welcome again on his show. Needless to say, he has some naysayers.

On the other hand, I do question his open support for some of the CEO’s simply on the basis of his relationship with them or their past performance. One example that comes to mind is Mel Karmazin, CEO of Sirius XM Radio. For a while, Jim supported Mel even as Sirius continued to struggle. Same can be said of his friendship with now disgraced, former New York Governor and Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.

So I post the videos below of his recent interview with John Stewart of the Daily Show with some reservation. On one hand, I completely agree with John’s point of view and specially his harsh criticism of CNBC and its sometimes so called journalists. On the other hand, I do feel that Cramer is one of those few who I would like to trust.

Nevertheless, the interview is worth watching and I applaud John Stewart for an excellent episode.
